Raise of the French Minimum Salary SMIC in August 2022 expected due to inflation.

After October 2021, January 2022 and May 2022, the SMIC will increase again on August 1, 2022: a fourth re-evaluation within a 12-months period.
The raise is automatic and based on the increase of the consumer price index.

New French Minimum salary in August 2022 due to inflation

The re-evaluation of the French minimum salary SMIC generally occurs on January 1st of each year and at any time during the year if the consumer price index increases by at least 2% since the previous revaluation of the SMIC.
As of 1st of May 2022, the SMIC has already been raised by 2.65 % due to inflation. The same mechanism should lead to a raise as of August 1st as the French institute INSEE confirmed an increase of inflation by 2.01 % since the last raise of the SMIC. This figure has yet to be confirmed by decree.

Raise of French minimum salary: new rates in August 2022

The raise of 2.01 % will increase the hourly rate to € 11,07. This corresponds to a monthly gross salary of € 1678,95 for a full-time position (35-hour week). This represents approximately a net gain of € 60 per month since 1st of January 2022.
As a comparison, the minimum salary of France’s neighbor Germany is € 10,45 per hour since 1st of July 2022.
